1. The best ski resort in Italy for beginners: Passo Tonale

The Passo Tonale ski resort is located at an altitude of 1,880 m, but the cable transport facilities go up to 3,088 meters altitude. It is one of the Italian ski resorts that are sure of snow from the end of October to the middle of June, a fact due to the Presena glacier , located at 3000 m altitude. The ski slopes here are mainly recommended for beginners and intermediates, but as the cable installations reach up to 3,088 meters, they facilitate access to the Ponte di Legno and Temù ski slopes , ideal for advanced skiers.

The ski areas located at a higher altitude can be accessed by means of the cable car, which goes up from  Passo Paradiso – located at 2,585 meters to Passo Presena – located at 3,000 meters above sea level. Once you arrive here, you have at your disposal a part that falls into the red category of difficulty. If you still don’t dare to descend it, you have the cable installations at your disposal, thus being able to benefit from an impressive panorama of the Italian Alps.

For beginners, you have at your disposal two ski and snowboard schools: Tonale Presena and Ponte Tonale , both with a very good standard of training. Don’t forget to ask for an English-speaking instructor if you don’t know Italian.

2. The best ski resort in Italy for intermediates: Corvara

Full of life and welcoming, the Corvara ski resort is especially aimed at families. Together with the resort of  San Cassiano , located in the immediate vicinity, it benefits from two large ski areas addressed to intermediate skiers. The panorama over the Dolomites is fantastic, and at sunset the horizon line appears in shades of pink.

There are several options for accommodation, but we recommend  the four-star La Perla Hotel, which offers typical, delicious Italian food, as well as tailor-made services in a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel’s wine cellar will encourage you to try new experiences, this time wine-gastronomic.

3. The best ski resort in Italy for experienced skiers: Alagna

Alagna ski resort preserves its charm from ancient times, complemented today by its stone or wooden churches. Located at only 1,212 meters above sea level, the resort offers facilities for ascent up to 3,275 meters.

Beyond its specially prepared slopes, the high altitude areas offer tough challenges even for the experienced. It undoubtedly competes with the parts of Chamonix, France . What we can tell you is that there is no place for beginners here, and if you are just starting out in terms of the art of skiing, we recommend that you avoid the slopes of Alagna. If you are experienced, passionate about skiing and addicted to adrenaline, Alagna is the ideal place this winter!

Although the Alagna resort offers only 15 km of slopes, it is perfectly interconnected with the resorts of Gressoney and Champoluc , through the Monterosa Ski crossing point , which provides you with no less than 200 km of slopes with different difficulties.

4. The best ski resort in Italy for the quality of the snow: Cervinia

The Cervinia ski resort is an altitude resort, with wide slopes and long descents. It offers the best skiing conditions even in the driest years, with natural snow guaranteed from December to the end of April. In addition, you can go up from Cervinia with the chairlift to Planteau Rosà , located at 3500 meters above sea level, where you will find the highest park in Europe for winter sports lovers and where the best Italian skiers train. Due to the high altitude, the Cervinia ski resort allows the best conditions for practicing winter sports even in the spring months.

Therefore, don’t be surprised if you run into Chiara Costazza, Alberto Schiepatti or Alexander Ploner during training, as once here you could meet the famous Alberto Tomba, one of the best skiers that Italy has ever had .

5. The most romantic and charming ski resort in Italy: Cortina d’Ampezzo

The Cortina d’Ampezzo ski resort  is located in the heart of the Dolomites, at an altitude of 1,211 m. Here time seems to stand still, urging you to contemplate, to find, to mediate on your own self. The charm of the 19th century buildings but also the entire view of the resort ranks it among the most appreciated and romantic ski resorts in Italy.

Even though over the centuries it was occupied in turn by France, Austria, Germany and even by the Americans, the population managed to maintain its own identity. While the residents of the neighboring resorts primarily speak Italian or German, the natives of Cortine cling to their old language, which is still spoken today among the locals.

The Cortina d’Ampezzo ski resort  has no less than 115 km of marked trails , ideal for intermediates and experts, perfectly interconnected. In addition, there is a free bus that will take you to  Passo Falzarego , from where you can take the cable car to reach the peak of Lagazuoi , located at 2,788 meters.
